DRUMMING IS CONTAGIOUS!

African Drumming keeps you captivated, connected and actively engaged and focused in every aspect of our program from start to finish.

Everybody simply loves it!

We create fun and natural, play based hands-on participation environments that encourage and foster a love of West African Music, Rhythm and Culture in Community Events, Drumming Classes, and Drum Circles all over Queensland, opening people to new musical ideas and life experiences.

African Drumming is a delightful way to enhance your life and achieve some of your best learning outcomes and fun life.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE AFRICAN DRUMMING CIRCLES?

DRUMMING AND MUSICAL EXPLORATION, STORIES, CULTURE AND INSTRUMENTS FROM ALL OVER AFRICA, DANCING AND SINGING.

Drumming together is a powerful method of building confidence and self-esteem because it is so much fun beating a drum, even the most non-musical person finds it hard to resist beating on a drum with friends.

We bring all the African Drums and Percussion instruments along with stories, songs, movement, dance, and fun! EVERY person will play on their own African Djembe drum and percussion instrument and learn about the Culture, the Tribes, specific Rhythms from each Country within the African continent, and how African instruments are made, all as much as possible within our sessions. There is lots of singing, dancing, laughing and hands on playing all the drums and unique African percussion instruments as we take them on a West African musical drumming adventure.

EVERYONE WILL PLAY!

African Drumming captures and retains everyone’s undivided attention, ignites the imagination and allows you to express with your own enthusiastic energy in the most positive way. We mix in fun throughout whilst allowing freedom to explore naturally.

EASY TO DO AND A PLACE TO BELONG TOGETHER

HOW AN AFRICAN DRUM CIRCLE WORKS

In a drum circle style setting, our professional musician actively creates a welcoming environment inviting everyone to join in by introducing easy-to-play rhythms for everyone to play together as a whole, thus evoking a sense of belonging and feeling connected.  There are drum roll rumbles, heart-beat grooves, drum head skin ‘swish and scratches’,  We sing too! The African drumming experience is not the same without some beautiful African songs and chants that are easy-to-sing or call out to each other.

One of the techniques we employ is Call and Response whereby a person plays a simple rhythm, then all their drum circle friends repeat the rhythm back to them.  A very powerful tool that actively encourages all musical ideas from the group empowering them, building confidence and giving them success at the same time. It also builds listening skills and respect for everyone, making the drumming experience valid and complete as a group.  We also use this technique for the singing
