WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM A RECYCLED SOUNDS EXPERIENCE?
Junk Percussion Incursions are a great way to engage children and have fun! The Incursion allows children to explore musical instruments created out of recycled materials and to explore ‘junk’ drums to create their own improvised music in a fun and interactive environment. Play-based learning. Children will explore alongside with us the elements of multicultural rhythms and how sounds are created and music can be composed through free improvisation.
The natural play setting and junk nature of the instruments will give the children more freedom to express themselves and will give them a greater sense of achievement as their own music creations emerge spontaneously. Surprising results happen!

HOW DOES THE ‘FREE NATURAL PLAY SETTING’ WORK
We bring over 50 expertly handmade instrument made from recycled materials. The nature of the materials used allows children to emerse themselves in free natural play and exploration. Our program whilst structured allows for true freedom of creative expression.
ACCELERATED LEARNING
This happens naturally with free natural play, whilst exploring the instruments material properties for what sounds they produce, children will naturally fall into a style of entrainment. They will explore and create their own rhythms but when in their small groups, will naturally listen, absorb and recreate each others rhythms and melodies to become a whole music ensemble. When this happens we gently guide them introducing easy-to-play rhythms, drum roll rumbles and melody patterns that are easy to absorb and recreate adding to their music learning seeds.

HOW DOES THE ‘FREE NATURAL PLAY SETTING’ WORK
We bring over 50 expertly handmade instrument made from recycled materials. The nature of the materials used allows children to emerse themselves in free natural play and exploration. We strategically organise all the instruments into specific groupings in your indoors and outdoor playground or uncover area settings. Tuned instrument inside and the more resonant untuned instruments outside. Part way through the free play, the children will go from indoors to outdoors to explore, play and create across all the instruments.
Our program has both structured learning activities and unstructured free play allowing for true freedom of creative expression through exploration and improvisation.

THERE IS BODY PERCUSSION TOO!
It’s the most fun you can have with your fingers, hands, mouth, feet and skin.Interactive and energetic, we explore making sounds and grooves using only our bodies as the instruments.
Snapping fingers, clicking tonques, slapping skin and stomping feet to produce rhythms and grooves that all the children will enjoy.

FOR THE WHOLE CENTRE
Our Early Years incursion programs are age appropriate engaging both babies and toddlers with age suitable gathering drums and percussion instruments whilst they observe, learn and participate along with Kindergarten and Preschool age children as they sing, dance, drum and imaginatively play throughout our musical adventures
If a ‘Whole Centre’ incursion is not ideal for your centre, we happily work with our second format of 2 sessions.
Babies and Toddlers freely exploring all instruments in the natural play setting, then Toddlers, Kindergarten and Preschool age children for their own separate incursion time.
HOW LONG DOES THE INCURSION GO FOR?
Our Whole Centre Incursions run for 45-60 minutes.
If we are running 2 sessions, Babies and Toddlers will have their own earlier session of 20-25 minutes. We then set up again ready for Kindergarten and Preschool age.
FACILITATED BY A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN
Our Drumming practitioners are tertiary trained professional musicians
who perform and conduct workshops regularly engaging with audiences of all ages from all walks of life and experiences.bringing with them collaborative creative skills with expertise drawn from music platforms of composition, songwriting, performance, sound recording and educational facilitation.
With over 20 years of program development and experience, our workshops are delivered with a fun and natural style approach paying particular attention to building skills using traditional, contemporary and original music.
Our workshops have been developed into inspirational music programs, incorporating interactive musical games, body percussion, drum circles, improvisation techniques and exploration of a brought spectrum of untuned and tuned instruments.
